Why Adopt An Adult Cat?

Benefits of adopting an adult cat:

By giving an adult cat a home, you may very well be saving his or her life. There are many more cats than there are homes available, and since so many people choose kittens, adults are often overlooked.

You have the advantage of knowing the personality of your new cat-you can match your expectations with what Kitty has to offer so that you are both happy. For example, if you want an affectionate lap-cat, you can get what you want and not be disappointed by a kitten who grows up to be very independent.

People often want a kitten so they can "mold" the personality. In actuality, you can't change a cat's personality-they are what they are. It can be difficult to determine the true personality of a young kitten.

An adult cat can be a much better choice for families with young children. You have the opportunity to choose a tolerant and interactive cat. An adult cat with an accepting disposition will relate to children and have the good sense to leave when "enough is enough." A kitten that is over-handled will often bite or scratch in self-defense. Children that are scratched or bitten become afraid and the kitten often loses his or her home. Also, kittens are fragile and vulnerable to injury.

An adult cat can contribute much to a home with older persons. The fact that adult cats are not as fast on their feet means that they are less likely to cause a person to trip and fall.

You know the size of your cat. Some people love large cats, and for others, a smaller size is more desirable. You can't be sure what you're getting when you adopt a small kitten.
