This list has been compiled
from a variety of sources to help people find shelters for cats that
they feel they can no longer keep.
We do not know any specifics about the shelters/rescues and have
not visited the vast majority of them, so it is up to you to make sure
they are reputable, safe places for your cat.
For example, you should find out what their euthanasia policies
are; not all shelters are “no-kill.” ·
Other advice: List an ad on
the website www.petfinder.com.
If you go to this site, at the top of the screen you will see a
place to click on “Classified Ads.”
You can list a free ad here describing your pet and what type of
home you are looking for. ·
The best resource your cat
has is you. Make color
flyers with a picture of your cat, and post them at vet offices, pet
supply stores, wherever a lot of people might see them.
Email everyone you know asking if they know anyone looking to
adopt a cat. Talk to your
friends. Keep in mind that
adult cats have a hard time getting adopted anywhere, even at a no-kill
shelter. An entire life
spent in a cage isn’t much of a life, so if you are trying to place an
adult, it is really best if you find the new home yourself by
advertising. · Finally, if you do contact any of the groups listed below, please keep in mind that most are run by volunteers, and you will likely have to leave a message and have someone call you back.
